Christchurch Earthquake: the good, the bad and the ugly

New Zealand is coming to terms with the devastating impact of the earthquake in Christchurch. Despite the terrible destruction caused, amazingly no one has been killed.
In room 9 we have been looking at the photos of broken buildings and reading newspaper articles that really show the best and worst of human nature.
Sadly, a few people have taken advantage of this terrible situation to steal and loot from shops. This is the ugly side of human nature: dishonesty.
On the Good Morning Breakfast show, a person e-mailed in to the show complaining about how much news coverage the earthquake was getting. This is the bad side of human nature:selfishness.
More encouragingly, was the Herald article on university students organizing work parties to help clean up Christchurch and in particular those who are old and incapable of helping themselves. Over 1300 students have registered on a Facebook site and are out on the streets helping. This is the good side human nature: selflessness.

Year 7 & 8 Survey Results

These students designed a survey trying to find out information about a 'typical' year 7/8 student. They designed a Google Docs form and embedded it in this blog. After they analyzed the data they were able to produce graphs in MS Excel, which they then put into a PowerPoint to present their findings.
View this and other awesome work by these students at their wiki page (click on the links below).
